devtools.tech is a platform for frontend engineers to practise real-world interview questions, write and test code in the browser, take courses, read system design guides, and get AI-assisted feedback on their code and resumes. It is operated by Devtools Digital Services (“We”, “Our”, “Us”).
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use https://devtools.tech (the “Website”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Please also read our Terms and Conditions. By using the Website you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive your name, email address, profile picture and account identifier from that provider (and your username, for GitHub). We never receive your Google or GitHub password. If you sign up with an email address and password, we store your email address and a securely hashed version of your password.
Content you create
Profile details you add, code you write and submit, quiz answers, your progress, bookmarks and collections, comments, and any text or files you submit to features such as AI Code Review, the AI Assistant and AI Resume Review.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Razorpay. We do not receive or store your card, UPI or bank details. We store the details of your purchase, such as order ID, payment ID, plan, amount, currency and payment status. Razorpay may collect billing details such as your name, phone number and address to complete the payment.
Communications
Messages you send us through the contact form or by email, and your newsletter subscription preferences.
Usage and device information
When you use the Website, we and our service providers automatically collect information such as the pages you visit, features you use, buttons you click, the website that referred you, your browser, device type and operating system, your IP address, approximate location derived from your IP address, and timestamps. We also collect error reports when something breaks.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences and track referrals. Our analytics and advertising partners also set cookies, pixels and similar technologies, as described in section 4.
2. How we use your information
- To create your account and sign you in.
- To provide the Website: run and test your code, save your progress, show solutions and courses, and power AI features.
- To process payments and manage your subscription.
- To send you emails about your account, purchases and important changes, and, if subscribed, newsletters and product updates.
- To understand how the Website is used and improve it.
- To measure how well our advertising works and to show relevant ads about devtools.tech on other platforms, such as Google and Meta.
- To detect and fix errors, and to prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Information we receive from Google
When you choose “Sign in with Google”, we request only the basic
openid, email and profile permissions. This gives us your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID. We do not access your Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, Calendar or any other Google data.- How we use it: only to create and sign in to your devtools.tech account, show your name and picture on your profile, and contact you about your account and purchases.
- How we share it: we do not sell Google user data and do not use it for advertising. We share it only with service providers that help us operate the Website (such as hosting and product analytics), when required by law, or with your consent.
- How we store and protect it: it is stored with your account on secured servers, transmitted over HTTPS, and accessible only to people who need it to run the Website.
- Retention and deletion: we keep it while your account is active. You can ask us to delete it at any time (see section 9). You can also remove devtools.tech’s access from your Google Account permissions.
devtools.tech’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Analytics, advertising and other service providers
We work with trusted third parties to run the Website. Some of them collect information directly from your browser through cookies, pixels and SDKs. We add or change providers from time to time and will keep this list up to date.
- Amplitude (product analytics): pages viewed, features used, events, device and browser details, and your account identifier, so we can understand how the Website is used.
- Google (Sign in with Google, Google Ads): sign-in, and a Google Ads tag that records page visits and purchases to measure our ad campaigns.
- Meta (Meta Pixel, for Facebook and Instagram ads): page views, checkout and purchase events (plan and price, never your payment details) to measure and improve our ad campaigns.
- Sentry (error monitoring): error details, the page URL, and browser and device information when something breaks.
- Razorpay (payments): processes your payment details.
- AI providers such as OpenAI: process the code, text or resumes you submit to our AI features in order to generate a response.
- GitHub (Sign in with GitHub).
- Hosting and infrastructure providers that store and serve the Website and its data.
Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy. We do not control the cookies set by these third parties.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With the service providers listed in section 4.
- When required by law, or when reasonably necessary to respond to legal process, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, property or safety of our users or the public.
- With a successor entity if we are involved in a merger, acquisition or restructuring. That entity will be required to follow this Privacy Policy.
- With your consent.
Content you choose to make public, such as comments, your public profile or leaderboard entries, is visible to other users.
6. Your choices about cookies and ads
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, some features, including staying signed in, may not work. You can control personalised ads through your Google Ad Settings and Meta Ad Preferences.
7. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except records we must keep to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations (such as payment records), resolve disputes or prevent fraud. Backups are overwritten on their normal cycle.
8. Security
We use HTTPS, access controls and hashed passwords to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, or withdraw your consent, at any time. Email us at [email protected] from the email address linked to your account and we will respond within 30 days. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.
10. Children
The Website is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
11. International transfers
We are based in India. Our service providers may process your information in other countries, including the United States, under appropriate safeguards.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, notify you by email or through a notice on the Website.
